"GET A GRIP ON ANGER"

AN ANGER MANAGEMENT GROUP FOR ADULTS

Learn how to:

Week 1: Anger as a learnt response; understanding family-of-origin; feelings, thoughts and behavior; time-out and time-in; changing negative self-dialogue; creating an anger log.

Week 2: Positive and negative uses of anger; short and long term consequences; understanding how we get angry; the dangers of alcohol and drugs; healthy ways to reduce tension; understanding irrational beliefs; changing patterns based upon negative memories; accepting personal responsibility for change.

Week 3: Understanding the want beneath anger; three ways to deal with anger; four stages in the process of anger; different kinds of anger.

Week 4: The primary feelings beneath anger; discovering hidden anger; understanding conflicts and ways to resolve it.

Week 5: Communication skills; assumptions and how to check out; sharing and listening; developing 5&5 dialogue; daily affirmations.

Week 6: The cycle of violence; understanding power and control; psychological-emotional abuse; physical abuse; sexual abuse; social abuse.

Week 7: The stress underlying anger; understanding stress; the place of self-esteem.

Week 8: Positive and negative stress; healthy ways to cope with stress; breathing techniques.

Week 9: Assertiveness skills; different styles- passive, aggressive and assertive; assertive statements and assertive rights; learning the ladder approach; counters to the ways people block assertiveness.

Week 10:Coping with the past; ending resentments; forgiveness of self and others; changing patterns; creative a healthy vision for the future.
